Last weekend, we had a bit of a wild adventure for our last wedding weekend of our spring season. We originally were scheduled to fly into LAX in the morning, and then planned to make the 3 hour drive down to San Diego county to spend some time with Justin + Alexis at their new home in Fallbrook. But! As luck (and ugh, traffic) would have it – we arrived 3 MINUTES too late to check our bags in to our flight with United. I know United has gotten a lot of bad press lately – but man, did they deliver for us! Not only did they rebook our flight at no fee – but they changed our flight from LAX (aka the BANE of my existence, I loathe that airport) to San Diego! SCORE! And it all worked out perfectly for us to come to Fallbrook for their backyard maternity photos!

We landed and immediately headed over to see Justin + Alexis. I’d heard of Fallbrook, but, I’d never actually been there. Imagine my surprise when we pulled off the freeway to this lush, beautifully forested area in northern San Diego county! Driving through the windy roads to get their home was like something  out of a fairy tale, in retrospect I wish we’d stopped on the side of the road so I could take photos of this drive. It’s dreamy!

When we pulled up their home, Randy + I immediately thought that this house was so perfectly ‘them.’ Greeted by the all-seeing eye at their front door, their new home is absolutely spectacular. I don’t even know how else to put it in words – it’s an oasis, a small slice of heaven on earth. I told them they could easily rent the space out for a smaller wedding, it’s just so incredibly gorgeous. Their backyard has a full mature garden of succulents and palms, and behind them is an entire grove of avocado trees (soooo California, right?!).

We always jump at the opportunity to spend time with our couple-clients-turned-friends-forever, especially these two – but this trip served a bigger purpose. You see, Alexis is having a baby!! She’s due in just a few short weeks, so it seemed like destiny for us to have the opportunity to drop in for a visit and of course – we HAD to snap a few photos of this incredible time in their lives!

Alexis was just glowing, radiant always in her beauty but seeing her as a growing mother just deepened our love for her, and for Justin. We are so, so excited for them and we know this baby is going to be so treasured by two incredible parents. I can’t wait to meet him (or her, baby’s gender is a surprise but I have a feeling it’s a boy!) when we come back out to California this summer!

We did this entire shoot in Justin + Alexis’s incredible backyard – which totally gave us some #backyardgoals … I’ll definitely be calling Alexis for tips on backyard decor for our new house (which we close in in 3 weeks, WOO HOO!).
