How To Make a DIY Photo Booth

Take Your Wedding Reception to the Next Level with a DIY Photo Booth

We’ll never forget the first time we ever saw a photo booth at a wedding. It was Ashley’s brother’s wedding, and they hired a fantastic company (whose name is totally escaping us, sorry, ugh!) that came with a cool little booth, props and it made immediate prints that all of the guests absolutely just loved (and it was a cool memory keepsake for the guests!).

That was a few years ago, and now photo booths are popping up at almost every wedding we shoot. It’s a ton of fun for guests, and the keepsake photos are totally rad for our couples.

There are a couple of options for photo booths at weddings: you can hire a company or you can do it yourself. That’s right: you can make a DIY photo booth!!

So this really can be as simple as setting up a table with some fun props on a table and having everyone take their own photos with cell phones or polaroids, or carving out a portion of reception time to have one of us man the photo booth table, or going all out and getting a cool app to take the photos for you!

One of our recent weddings had one of the best DIY Photo set-ups that we’ve ever seen, so we want to share with you how they did it.

First, they got a bunch of fun props – oversized sunglasses, blow up dolphins, cute little signs on sticks, masks, feather boas, etc. Then they got a fun backdrop made of sparkly ribbon (which you can get at stores like Party City).

Then they got an app for their iPad called DIY Wedding Booth. It was roughly $10, and they said it was super simple to figure use!

And that’s it! They set everything up on a tripod, and the iPad takes four pictures each time.

They even took it a step further, and purchased a special printer so guests could print out their pictures right there and then! They bought the Selphy CP910 off Amazon for about $100 (although, it looks like that particular model has been recently discontinued by the manufacturer; however, you can search around and find a similar printer at a similar cost).
The paper and ink were standard with the printer, and then for our border and bottom Thank You section, the couple made that – but the app does allow you to make your own custom borders.
You’re also able to store all of the photos, so you have digital copies of all the photos taken!

And that’s it! Super easy to pull together, budget friendly and it adds a ton of fun to your wedding reception!
