Three years.
I can’t believe it took us so long to update our family photos. The last time we did a full family session was three years ago, when we were on vacation in Utah. For the longest time, I kept saying “ok, we’re going to do it!” and then something would happen – like we’d show up to a beach session and both of our boys would jump into the ocean before the poor photographer had taken a single shot (sorry about that, Kiersten!), or we’d move across the country, or Noah would get a black eye, or we would be up to our eyeballs with weddings.
But, it became a business goal this year to get some new head shots taken for ourselves, and I thought – hey, while we’re at it, we should totally get some updated family photos out in the desert, too! Let me tell you: taking pictures of your own kids is like pulling teeth. Without novacaine. And trying to get yourself in the shot? Forget about it! It’s enough to make you want to quit photography and hide in the closet with a bottle of wine.
Lesson Learned: Outsource Your Family Photos
So a few weeks ago, I asked our friend Katie McGihon to come up to the high desert to document our first family photos since moving home to California and to update our head shots for us (since we really didn’t have any – crazy, right?). If you peek around the website, you might just see some of Katie’s beautiful work for our head shots! We actually took these in between all the craziness of our summer, and I’m so grateful that we did. I absolutely treasure these! They are easily some of our favorite photos of our family. And – even more awesome … this was our first EVER film photography experience! Katie rocks the film, guys – seriously!
Enjoy! xoxo
Special thanks to Katie McGihon Photography for taking these fabulous photos of our family. We love them, and we love you!

Such a wonderful session. I love you guys and I’m SOOO blessed to call you FRIENDS!
Well, these photos are so great they make up for the three years without them. Super cute kiddos and outfits! The location and light sure do make me miss the southwest (used to live in Yuma, AZ)!
