Aspen Engagement Session at Tagert Lake
November 29, 2018
Happy Monday morning, friends!! Y’all are in for one heck of a treat today! I’m taking it back to this past fall, when I photographed Jason and Blair’s engagement session at Tagert Lake in Aspen, and let me tell you: it was a totally surreal experience.
When I met up with Jason and Blair for their engagement session this past fall up in Aspen, we originally had planned on going to see the world famous autumnal foliage at Maroon Bells. We got there well before sunrise pretty much in the middle of the night, and the line to get in was literally worse than Disneyland. When we finally got to the front of the line, we got some devastating news.
– The parking lots were 100% full.
– There was just short of a bazillion people waiting to go up the trail, which was 9 miles long from the entrance station to Maroon Lake.
– The busses weren’t going to start running until an hour AFTER sunrise, meaning we’d miss the gorgeous alpenglow of the Bells.
And so we had to come up with a Plan B and we had to do it real quick, because we were racing against the clock.
Jason smiled and then said, “well, you know, we could go back to the ranch we’re staying at by Independence Pass, it’s pretty awesome. We have a canoe.”
He totally had me at CANOE!
So we drove 20 minutes to this gorgeous private ranch just before Independence Pass and came upon one of the most gorgeous properties I’ve ever seen. Aspen Independence Ranch is a 160+ acre property, with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains and despite the cold, Jason and Blair braved the canoe for me and watched the sunrise over the Rockies while I happily snapped away. And then we hiked around, in awe of the beauty of Colorado during fall, dipping our toes in the icy river that runs through the property and we even got to do a little four wheelin’ in this awesome buggy.
Basically, I had the time of my life and it was 100% worth getting up at 3 in the morning to hang out with these two.
