Can you think of a better way to spend your engagement session than by eating ice cream? Yeah, me either!! I got to hang out with Abbey and Joe just a few days ago for their engagement session in Colorado Springs at BJ’s Velvet Freez! When Abbey first suggested it, I thought it would be pretty rad but I had no idea just how cool it would be until I got there! In all our years of living in Colorado Springs, I’d never heard of this place, let alone been to this part of town! I didn’t get a chance to try ice cream while we were shooting, but we are definitely going to come back and get some because this place was slammin’!

We had so much fun just walking around the area where BJ’s is at, and there is some pretty neat architecture! Lots of white bricks, cool wavy roofs and 60+ year old buildings! It was wonderful getting to know the two of them, and spending an afternoon laughing (and trying not to drip ice cream everywhere in this crazy June heat we’ve had lately!).

As a history teacher and a architectural historian, picking a place like BJ’s Velvet Freez made total sense! These two are two peas from the same pod; in fact, Abbey says they “pretty much clicked from the beginning.” They initially met online (another shout out to OkCupid for bringing together another awesome couple!) and when they initially met for happy hour, it turned into a 5+ hour date. Talk about an AWESOME first date!

And now … here they are, planning their wedding for next year! I’m soooo excited for their wedding you guys, it’s going to be totally rad! It’s going to be at the Tivoli Turndown up in Denver, this really awesome and eclectic venue … and they’re going to have tacos for dinner. Done! Sold! I can’t wait!
