Today is the beginning of Day 5 (already?!!) of our first annual Road Tour … and boy oh boy has it been one heck of an adventure! I decided not to take my “big camera” out for most of the trip so far – in fact, it’s been out of the bag twice thus far. I have been wanting to relax and take it easy and just enjoy the view and drive through our countryside. I have to admit – sometimes it’s super nice just to be able to take a snapshot with my iPhone and leave it be – sometimes it feels like I get too wrapped up into documenting each and everything with the “big camera” just in case I want to do something with it later. So bare with me – many of the shots on my traveling blog will be from my iPhone because I simply wanted to capture the moment. 🙂 Excuse some of the blurriness for some of them, haha!

So far we’ve been pretty much just traveling through Texas. On our first day we went through New Mexico and even had a picnic at a volcano! We spent our first night in the RV at a truck stop just outside of Lubbock … it was actually really nice. We didn’t have a/c or hookups … which was a teensy bit miserable in the muggy heat of Texas in June … but, we survived. 🙂

We drove on to Abilene, Texas to visit our extended family on day 2. I absolutely adore the DeBlieck’s – Randy grew up with Kirk, and we’ve stayed in touch over the years despite the fact we haven’t lived near each other since 2002. Christy and Scott welcomed me into the family with open arms so many years ago, and, I’ve loved them ever since. We had a great time BBQing, swimming and hanging out in Abilene! And mmm, Christy’s 7 layer cookies are the stuff of legends – So. Freaking. Delicious!!

On Sunday (day 3), we headed to Houston. The kids weren’t happy to leave Abilene (see the photo of them being grumpy? haha), and we spent the entire day driving across the middle of Texas. The wildflowers are absolutely gorgeous right now – I didn’t get a chance to take a shot of them, I’ll try to get one today while we’re out and about … but I’ve never seen so many wildflowers anywhere. Absolutely gorgeous. We also hooked up at an RV site for the first time ever – it wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be!

Yesterday (day 4) was the roughest day so far. We had a bit of a pet emergency – both Jacob (our German Shepherd) and Charlie (our red dachshund) got very ill with some sort of bacterial stomach bug that required a trip to the local vet’s office yesterday morning (as well as Target for bleach, Lysol, cleaning wipes and room spray … and a bottle of wine). I’ve never had a sick dog before – like, ever – and so yesterday was pretty bad for me. I was super stressed out about the dogs being sick and not knowing what was going on … But the vet we went to was fantastic – a special thanks to Dr. Bruce (and the rest of the staff) of Abshier-Meuth Animal Hospital in Baytown – y’all saved the day (and the trip!).

We spent most of the day cleaning and recuperating back at the RV, just hanging out, playing Uno and watching Fantastic Four.

So today I have my first shoot of the trip, with one of my very first client’s that I had up in Minot. I’m super excited to see old friends, and get started with work! 🙂 We’re also going to go check out some local sights … can’t wait!!

Until next time!
xoxo
