Sunrise is early, even for us adults. But to get kiddos up, dressed, fed and happy that early? It’s nothing short of a miracle and yet Quinn and Catherine made it look super easy with their two boys, Niels and Peter.

We met up for their family session on Jekyll Island in January just a few weeks ago, and together we explored the Horton House ruins as well as Driftwood Beach. Because we are on the east coast, doing beach sessions is usually best in the mornings because the sun is coming up over the water instead of setting on the opposite side. Maybe it’s because I grew up on the west coast, and I prefer that beautiful sun-over-the-water look? I don’t know. Either way, Quinn and Catherine trusted my recommendation and we met at 6:30 in the morning. The sun came up and it was absolutely perfect lighting the whole time we were together!

Despite the chilly morning (I think it was in the 40s!), the two boys were so happy and joyful the entire time. I could have probably photographed their family for hours! They loved climbing all over the Horton House ruins and exploring the beach at Driftwood Beach, and they got super cozy wrapping up in the cozy gorgeous blanket that Catherine picked up from Target! If you’re ever planning on a family session in the wintertime at the beach, I strongly recommend bringing a blanket!
