Navy Retirement Ceremony at King’s Bay Submarine Base

February 4, 2020

navy chief retirement

I can hardly believe this, but this was the first military retirement I’ve ever photographed! Can you believe that? This year marks ten years for me as a wedding photographer, Randy serviced in the Air Force from 2005-2011, we have lived around military bases basically my entire adult life … and this was a first!

It was so humbling to be part of, and I’m honored that the Ciuk family invited me to Todd’s Navy retirement ceremony at King’s Bay Submarine Base here in St Mary’s. This was my first time meeting Todd, so getting to hear all about his accomplishments and what he meant to the other sailors who have worked with him the last 20-odd years was nice to hear. It’s kind of like at weddings, where everyone stands up to speak about the couple but instead, this was all about Todd and the incredible impact he’s had during his military career.

The coolest part, for me, was when they called Sarah (Todd’s wife) up to the stage to thank her for everything she did as a Navy spouse. She’s been supporting Todd during his entire military career and it was really awesome to see how Todd and everyone he worked with appreciate Sarah’s role in Todd’s career. Military spouses are made of pure courage and strength, and it’s always nice to see them recognized. Their two kids, Angelina and Cordelia, were also brought up on stage and recognized for the important role they played, supporting their dad and his service with the Navy.

After the Navy retirement ceremony, everyone hung out for some lunch and an incredible gluten free cake made by Sweet by Holly that smelled as amazing as it looked!

Todd, thank you so much for your service to this great country, it was truly an honor to meet you and be there to document such a momentous occasion for you and your family!
