Sammy Durham

1982-2021

Randy’s dad plucked Sam out of a pond in Florida when he was just a wee hatchling, no bigger than a thumbnail. He was born before both of us, and lived quite the life. Sam traveled with the family from Florida to California in the mid-80s, where he would live until 2011 when Randy’s mom passed away.

We inherited Sam, and brought him to live with us in Colorado. He loved to travel – we would put his tank by the window in the RV, and he would look outside and bask in the sun. Sam saw all of the states we traveled to, and moved with us from Colorado back to California and Colorado again. He saw Ricky in Georgia and Randy’s dad again in Florida, and he made the trek with us last year up to Wisconsin. He loved Texas, strawberry leaves and the heat.

He would have many goldfish roommates throughout the years, and he loved them all but especially Frank. Frank was his longest roommate, at nearly 3 years, before succumbing to the current of the water filter in 2016.

Sam passed peacefully overnight after a short respiratory illness. The vet did everything he could to help over the last 3 weeks, and for that we will always be grateful.

Sam is survived by his current goldfish roommate, Cass, and a family who loved him very much. 😞
