A few weeks ago, we got an email from this guy named Spencer. He was flying up from Texas, to propose to his girlfriend McKenna, a native of Fort Collins – and he wanted to be sure the moment was captured. He knew it was going to be an important moment, and he wanted to make sure McKenna would have memories of it with some surprise proposal photos! Since neither of them had ever been to Garden of the Gods before, we even went and made videos and took photos of our favorite spot so Spencer could study them, and take McKenna on a short hike to one of the most magnificent views of Pike’s Peak that Garden of the Gods has to offer. I came a little early, hiked up on top of some nearby boulders and waited for them to start rounding the corners – praying the directions worked, since cell phone service is terrible up there and I honestly had no idea if they’d gotten to where I was sending them. It was freezing cold and super windy, and exactly at the time we planned for them to arrive … I finally caught sight of the two of them walking up the trail.
From my view far above them, I watched as Spencer said things that made McKenna beam from ear to ear, and he pulled out a box and got down on one knee, followed by lots of hugging and kissing and staring at her hand in disbelief. Finally, Spencer spotted me and waved me down, and we did a few “freshly engaged” portraits just as the sun was setting behind Pike’s Peak (and a little storm was rolling in).
I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to capture Spencer and McKenna’s surprise proposal photos at Garden of the Gods, these two are going to make an amazing married couple later this summer! I’m so bummed we’re already booked for their wedding date, but I know their wedding is going to be absolutely beautiful!
