Photographer Problems

That time I sat in duck poo and got my foot stuck in the Kitsap Peninsula

November 4, 2013

No really … it totally happened.

While we were on our trip to Seattle in October, I got to do a session for one of our best friends – Amy – and her family in Poulsbo at the waterfront downtown area … And as I was sitting down on the pier to get eye level with their oldest daughter Alex … I sat down on the ONLY plop of duck poo on the entire pier!

Trying to get duck poo off my brand new 2-hour-old jeans (after an earlier disaster that ruined a different pair of jeans) – it didn’t work so well. It ended up just getting everywhere … Oy.

But was my awesome streak over yet? Nope! We moved down to the beach to do some shots next to the water, and I noticed that the beach was similar to quicksand … and so I said to Randy, “be careful – this beach looks like it’s pretty quicksandy” and with my literal next step I was stuck up to my calf into the Kitsap Peninsula. My shoe got stuck – it took Randy and Kiev (Amy’s husband) – two full grown men – to pull me out of the beach. And what did we do? We laughed. We laughed and laughed and laughed.

I snapped this shot of the family laughing as I was stuck in the Kitsap Peninsula. Amy couldn’t even stand still – she had to walk away she was laughing so hard.

So what’s the point of me sharing this embarrassing tale with you? To put it simply, well … shiz happens. And you have two choices – you can let it bog you down, and inhibit you. Or you can find the positive side – and laugh. Laugh at yourself, laugh at the situation, and to not focus on all the bad side of things.

And then make a second stop at Target for a new (and more flattering) pair of jeans. Maybe it was God’s way of saying “always try jeans on before you buy them, or else I will sneak duck poo under you right before you sit down” … or not. Ha!

My only regret? That Randy didn’t take a picture of me with my leg in the sand.

Have a great week, y’all!
