Why Wedding Day Details Matter

March 30, 2016

When you think of a wedding – what’s the first thing that pops into your head?

A wedding couple, right?

A bride in a dress or maybe a groom in his suit, two people madly in love? Laughter, tears, guests boogying on the dance floor?

Maybe the first thing that doesn’t pop into your head are endless photos of table settings, the bouquets, the cute little “I Do” rhinestones on the bottom of the bride’s heels, or the lanterns lining the aisle.

Yet, we’re here to tell you …

Wedding Day Details Matter

We really think they’re valuable to the overall wedding photography experience and once you see your full wedding day gallery – you will, too.

But, why?

Because they’re a big part of your wedding day story. If you’re like so many of our brides, you’ve spent countless hours planning and preparing for your wedding – carefully curating Pinterest boards, selecting the perfect flowers and tablescapes, paying good money to planners, bakers, florists and the rest of your vendor team to take your Pin-spired dreams and make them into a reality!

And while you might not realize it, you’re going to want to remember that stuff. In 5 years, when you’re looking through your album – you’ll see the cute welcome bags you and your bridesmaids spent hours assembling, laughing over glasses of wine. You’ll see the sweet hand-embroidered “I loved you first” patch on the inside of your father’s tie. You’ll see the hand-me-down handkerchief that every woman in your family has carried down the aisle for the last 5 generations.

These are the little things.

These things tell your story.

These things matter in the long run.

So why are we blogging about this today? Because when you’re putting together your timeline, carefully consider adding in “detail photography” time for us to document these things: 30-60 minutes at the beginning of the day for your dress, shoes, invitations, jewelry – shoot, even the perfume you’re wearing; and about 15 minutes or so for each site (ceremony, cocktail hour and reception) for us to quickly shoot the empty room, and all the carefully placed details.

We will love you for making sure we have enough time to take care of your memories. We’ll know you appreciate that we want your wedding day to be fully documented.

Plus? Your vendors will LOVE you so much if you share those photos with them. Seriously. They’ll love you forever. These will become the photos they show future couples and your wedding could become someone else’s pin-spiration!

And? Details are a major requirement for weddings to get published in magazines and on blogs. We can’t just focus on the couple because by only focusing on the couple (or the guests), we’re missing what tells the story of the wedding day!

  1. I absolutely LOVE wedding details! And it’s something that I have really been trying to encourage my brides to really consider and pay attention too. I also I have my little rule that if it looks like they spent even 5 dollars on it…photograph it.

YES!! I so wish I had better detail shots from my wedding. I can’t even tell you what my jewelry looked like, let alone my invitation! Those are precious things you take time to pick out and should be able to have captured! Love this post!

So true! I love details, from every wedding, but especially my own. 🙂
