Some sports are easy to photograph. Pole vault isn’t one of them.

When Hanna and her mom reached out about incorporating pole vault into her senior session, I knew we had the opportunity to create something completely different. Instead of photographing her during a meet, we planned a dedicated sports portrait session at Corona Del Sol High School in Tempe, where she has spent countless hours training, competing, and chasing new personal records.

For athletes, their sport is a huge part of who they are. Senior photos should tell that story.

Pole vault combines speed, strength, precision, and fearlessness. Every successful jump is the result of years of dedication, and I wanted Hanna’s portraits to reflect that.

Using dramatic off-camera lighting, we created bold images on the runway that highlight both the athlete and the environment she’s worked so hard in. From powerful portraits holding her pole to action-inspired images on the track, every photograph was designed to showcase the confidence and determination that define her as an athlete.

These aren’t traditional senior pictures.

They’re sports portraits that celebrate years of commitment.

More Than Just a Pole Vaulter

One of my favorite things about senior sessions is showcasing everything that makes each athlete unique.

In addition to pole vault, Hanna is also a dancer and gymnast. Those experiences have helped shape her athleticism, balance, flexibility, and confidence—qualities that are obvious the moment you watch her compete.

Every athlete has a story, and I love creating portraits that capture more than just a uniform.

The Next Chapter: Arizona State University

After graduating from Corona Del Sol High School, Hanna will be attending Arizona State University.

It’s always exciting to photograph seniors during this season of life, knowing they’re about to begin a brand-new chapter. Years from now, these images will serve as a reminder of everything they accomplished before taking that next step.

We’re not finished with Hanna’s senior portraits just yet, either. The second half of her senior session took us to Superstition Mountain for an entirely different look, and I can’t wait to share those images soon.
