… and you’ve decided to hire a professional photographer to document your love!
Engagement sessions are a lot of fun – both for the photographer, and for the bride-and-groom to be! These pictures should be very special, and personalized to the two of you. How do you make your engagement session amazing? Here are a few tips!
1.) Hire a photographer who can make you relax and have fun. That means meet with them in person, if you can – or even talk with them on the phone. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had fellas pull me aside to thank me for making them laugh, and how they “actually like to have their pictures taken now!” (which, FYI, is the best compliment ever).
2.) Do some searching on Pinterest! I’ve got several engagement shoots pinned onto my Pinterest board for inspiration.
3.) Make it personal! Do something that really celebrates who the two of you are – both as a couple, and as people individually. For example, a recent engagement session I did featured the couples’ favorite beer and a basketball (since the groom-to-be is a basketball coach). Recreate your first date, be inspired by your favorite movie – the more personalized your session, the more you’re going to love it.
4.) Dress for the occasion – and be yourselves! Don’t be super dressed up if that’s not who you are – engagement sessions should be a reflection of your love. Save the tuxes and expensive gowns for your wedding day!
5.) Pick a location beforehand that you love – nature, urban – even a session in the home. Your photographer should have plenty of ideas for shoot locations if you can’t decide on one.
