Hello and happy Wedding Wednesday!
At a recent wedding we shot, we did something a little fun, a little crazy, a little adventurous. It was something we’d never done before, but after seeing a blog post a while ago from Jasmine Star about it … we decided to just ask our bride:
You want to get dressed outside?
You see, the bridal suite was giving off the worst orange color cast because it had pine wood paneling all over the floors and ceilings. Not only that, it was smaller space and was pretty cramped with bridesmaids, hair and makeup artists, dresses and just a lot of stuff … and we knew that there had to be another option for our bride to get dressed. And right outside the bridal suite was a little grove of grapefruit trees, and nice soft lighting.
Sold. Done and done. Let’s do this.
Figured we could ask her to consider doing something a little crazy and unplanned, and the worst she could say was “no,” right?
Our bride was totally down for the idea and trusted our vision, so we went outside … and you know what?
It was absolutely amazing.
A million times better than the orange pine room, and we got to tie in the elements of their outdoor grove wedding with her getting ready photos … and it was so much more pleasing to the eye.
So, brides and photographers: next time you’re in a not-so-pretty bridal suite … take advantage of your venue, and think outside the box!
If your bride isn’t totally comfortable getting completely dressed outside, have her put the dress on half-way to cover up, and finish up the lacing outside. Find a private spot to do the finishing touches – bring a pretty chair outside for the bride to sit on while she puts her heels on, have her mom put her necklace on outside, have the bridesmaids fluff her dress in the beauty of natural light outside.
