So, Randy and I have been spending a lot of time talking about where we want to be in five years. In ten years. What makes us happy. What our purpose in life is. Needless to say, we had many answers to the questions we have been asking ourselves and each other … But there was a common theme to each and every answer – being able to spend more time together as a couple and as a family, and the ability to be our own boss.
Over the last four years as a wedding, boudoir and portrait photographer, I have had the privilege of being my own boss. I can honestly tell you it is the best decision we ever made, and every day I thank my lucky stars that I have been lead to this passion and career. Since moving to Colorado in 2011, Randy and I have always appreciated the concept of being able to live off the land, to wake up and view the majesty of Colorado’s landscape and being able to celebrate our faith and love with our family, friends and clients.
Which is why we have decided to start working toward to dream – now a goal – of purchasing a large ranch and turn it into a working farm, as well as a wedding venue.
We are dreaming big. We want a large white barn, big enough to provide an area for at least 250 people to wine and dine with the bride and groom. We want horses, chickens and Randy wants to grow crops. We want to have mountain views and rolling hills Of grassland. We want a white fence. We want somewhere for our kids to ride ATVs and a basketball court in our backyard. I want a beautiful white gazebo for people to stand under as they vow to love and honor each other, all the days of their lives. I want to have an on-site photography studio for me to shoot boudoir and have the girly office I’ve been pinning about for ages.
It’s going to take us a few years to make this dream into a reality, but I know that if we work hard and we do it together, we can make it happen. I don’t know where exactly in Colorado we are going to build our dream ranch, but I know we will find our perfect piece of heaven on earth.
