In late November, I headed up to Sedona for a beautiful extended family session, and for the first time I got to visit a new location! This spot is called Secret Slick Rock, and it has the most incredible views of Cathedral Rock in the background! It’s about a mile hike from the parking lot, but boy is it worth it. It’s an easy trail, and mostly flat – very doable for families with children! It was much less crowded and busy than Lover’s Knoll, Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte, and a much easier hike than Cathedral Rock. One difficult part about Secret Slick Rock for photo sessions is that the sun sets directly to the side of the flat area that has Cathedral Rock in the background, so it can cause some uneven lighting if you’re there too early in golden hour. Luckily, the hike down has quite a few open shade spots to stop at, as you can see below. And once the sun sets? The rocks glow red, and it’s just stunning. God is so good in His creations!
Due to a privacy request, I’m only able to share a part of this family session – which is totally fine!! Client privacy is paramount. But I am very grateful to be able to showcase any of this family’s photos, because Secret Slick Rock has become one of my favorite not-so-secret spots in Sedona for family photos!
