Someone once told me that “friends are the family we choose” – and over the years, I’ve learned that this one of the truest statements about humanity. Every once in a while we come across someone in the world who becomes part of the family … someone who we can call at 3am (because one of us is just going to bed and the other is just waking up – so it’s cool), someone who squeezes our hands when we’re excited, lends us a shoulder to lean on when we’re sad, someone to bring over raw cookie dough and a cheesy Red Box DVD when we just need a minute to just not do anything … Basically, every once in a while you come across someone who is your best friend. And for me, I’m lucky enough to have TWO of these people in my life. Meet one of them – Missee! Missee and her hubby, Matt, are two of our favorite people in the world. Over the last almost-3-years we have gone through a deployment and a half together, countless BBQs and so much more … And so when I asked Missee to be a guinea pig for me for something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time – she jumped at the chance.

And I’m so glad she did. These are some of my most favorite maternity photos that I’ve ever taken. They are so simple, yet beautiful. We did this glamour maternity session up in Rocky Mountain National Park, by Estes Park. It started off as an unseasonably warm winter day … but man, once that sun went down the temperatures dropped a good 25* in less than a few minutes it seemed like!
