10 Things You Didn’t Know About Randy

Created by Ali Coşkunfrom the Noun Project

Today we are doing something a little different than we’ve EVER done before … I’m going to devote an entire blog JUST to Randy!

Over the last couple of years, Randy has slowly become a bigger part of the ADS store front. When I first opened up my business almost five years ago, Randy was my number one supporter and cheerleader (and he still is). It was honestly his idea for me to go into business, and he’s always been an almost-equal decision maker (haha!) with everything that goes on behind the scenes. When I couldn’t figure out how to do something – like shooting with off-camera flash or when we made the big switch to shooting Kelvin for white balance … Randy was the one who would figure it out, and then teach it to me. Now that he’s shooting weddings with me full-time, I thought it would be fun to do a little blog on 10 things you might not know about Randy!

So without further adieu, here we go!

1.) Color Him Red. Randy used to HATE the color red. For the first few years we were together, I would always buy him red clothes – and he’d wear it simply because I got it for him. One year for Christmas I got him a red sweatshirt, and he finally confessed he hated wearing the color red. Oddly enough, after he told me that, he started voluntarily wearing it even more often and somehow it’s now become his go-to color to wear for t-shirts.

2.) Forget Paleo. He’d eat pizza and burritos every day if he could. In fact, he tries every day to get me to make breakfast burritos and pizza for dinner! Santana’s California burritos are like the 2nd food group for him, I think. Since we’re trying to eat healthier and trying to eat at home more often … going out for pizza and burritos is like the best.date.ever.

3.) Sun, Sand and the Beach. He loves the beach (and we’ve actually talked about moving closer to the shore in a few years), but he refuses to go in the water … and he really doesn’t like sand. Yeah, it doesn’t make much sense to me either! I think it’s because he once had a puffer fish try to get him when we lived in Okinawa!

4.) Proud Patriot. Randy served in the US Air Force from 2005-2011 and during that short time in he was stationed at Lackland AFB, Port Hueneme, McChord AFB, Kadena Air Base and Minot AFB. He also went to Afghanistan for 194 of the longest days of my life – this photo was taken by our dear friend Kristi Hammack (Kaptured by Kristi) at his homecoming at the Naha Airport in Okinawa, Japan. It was also the first time Randy got to meet Noah, who was just a day shy of being a month old.

10 Things About Randy_00025.) He’s Super Napper. Randy can fall asleep anywhere, anytime. Power naps are Randy’s super power.

6.) Peanut-buttah-cups. His favorite candy are Reese’s peanut butter cups. In fact, that’s one of the reasons Katelyn’s middle name is Reese. I couldn’t even make that up if I tried!

7.) He doesn’t like social media. The only reason he has a Facebook account is for me! I’m working on getting him to be more active, but no luck (yet). In fact, I’d go so far as to say he’d go back to having a flip-style phone and not even have all the extra fluff on his iPhone!

8.) He makes it rain. It’s become a running joke in our relationship that he is incapable of planning anything because whenever he does – it will ALWAYS rain. Every year for our anniversaries or birthdays or holidays – if Randy’s in charge of planning it or trying to surprise me with a planned date … it will, without fail, rain. Camping, miniature golf, beach trip, hiking in Joshua Tree – whatever the case might be. If it rains, it’s because Randy planned something for that day.

9.) He always has to wear socks. I tease him that I’ve seen his bare feet less than 10 times in the 13 years we’ve been together, but seriously – he always has socks on. Even when it’s 120 degrees outside – he’ll have socks on (albeit thin ones). You’ll never see him in flip flops, even at the beach.

10.) He a bit of a daredevil. Growing up, he wanted to be a stuntman or a stunt driver. In fact, every once in a while he still brings up going to stunt driving school (but for the time being, we will just stick to off-roading with the kids, thankyouverymuch). He wants to go sky diving at least once, and bungee jumping too (and no, I definitely will NOT be accompanying him on either of those excursions!).

Sooooo how many of these did you know!?? Tell us in the blog comments!!
