Melissa summed up her relationship with John in this perfect quote: “When you marry your best friend just going to the grocery store feels like an adventure.” I love that quote. Why? Because Randy and I are the same way! We do everything together – grocery store, Costco runs, pumping gas, whatever it is that we’re doing – we do it together. It’s so, so important to enjoy doing mundane things together and be best friends, and it just makes my heart so happy to see that John and Melissa have a relationship like ours. And it makes me even happier that we get to be able to tell their story, starting with their engagement photo session at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs!
When they met at the golf course that Melissa works, at, they instantly zinged together. Both of them knew right away that the other person was someone special! John was out golfing with a friend, and after going home to help his dad with something, came back and grabbed drinks with Melissa. She asked for his number afterward, and they haven’t stopped talking ever since.
They got engaged just a few months ago, and it was such a special proposal. I’ll let Melissa tell you exactly how it happened!!
I (Melissa) went to the Zac Brown Band concert up in Denver with friends and it was just another typical day. I talked to John every so often throughout the concert and once it was over I let him know I’d be on the way back to Springs soon. John just simply replied with “ok babe let me know when you get back to your car safe.” Fast forward through the drive filled with back in the day 90s jams… I texted him as soon as I was in my car and driving home. He told me that the upstairs door was acting weird and he had to look at it in the morning so to use the downstairs entrance. Not even thinking anything was up I did as he said and when I walked in I saw nothing but a trail of rose petals. I was in shock and my first thought was just aww he’s being super romantic for some reason he really missed me. As I followed the trail it lead to a room filled with rose petals and candles all around with the man of my dreams standing there. Still in total shock he took my hand and started telling me how much he loved me, how I make him a better man, and how he’s known for a long time I was the one for him. It was THEN that I knew exactly what was going on. He got down on one knee and said the famous words, “will you marry me?”
