Now that I am accepting local weddings here in Southern California once again, I figure it’s about time for me to catch up on some of the weddings I’ve photographed over the last year and a half that I haven’t had a chance to blog quite yet. First up – Jason and Ashley’s gorgeous fall apple orchard wedding from earlier this fall in Penrose, Colorado!
This was actually my final wedding in Colorado, and I couldn’t have picked a better couple to hang out with for such a special occasion! Their wedding was a DIY’ers dream, featuring a ton of their own handiwork – Ashley and Jason actually started their own business making wood signs, which all started when they were working on their wedding plans together! It makes me so excited to see them working together and doing something creative, that they love to do. AMAZING!
Ashley told me, “We made all of our wedding decor, all of our signs, wooden framed guestbook, activities etc. Notably, there was a big pallet that is decorated with flowers and photos that said “we know you’d be here today, if heaven wasn’t so far away” and had a handwritten sentiment from my late father on it, the piece is a tribute to my late father as well as my late brother.”
Ashley’s dad played a big part in the rest of their wedding day plans as well. Ashley said, “Our wedding day date is extra special because 9/21 would have been my father’s birthday, 9/21/2019, would have been his 76th birthday. Our wedding date is our way of including him in our special day as he passed away last year, shortly before we got engaged. In honor of his birthday, we served birthday cupcakes (his favorite, red velvet) in addition to our wedding cake. Our wedding favors (homemade apple jelly) were also a tribute to my dad, as we used to go pick chokecherries and plums when I was a child and make jelly together, for this event we chose apple due to it being in an apple orchard.”
Isn’t that amazing and so special? I know their wedding day was so hard on Ashley, because her father and brother were watching from Heaven. But, as hard as it was, I loved all of the intimate details – I even heard some Beach Boys at the reception, which was another nod to him.
This wedding was not only the joining of Jason and Ashley, but also of Jason as Ashley’s daughter’s new stepfather. During the ceremony, the two of them exchanged vows and gifts, and I’ll tell you what – there wasn’t a dry eye anywhere in the crowd (including yours truly!).
I’d love to thank the vendors who came together to make Jason and Ashley’s gorgeous fall apple orchard wedding absolutely beautiful!
