It’s been for-ev-er since I have photographed a beach engagement session in California – and Kyle and MaKenna’s Del Mar beach engagement photos totally made me remember how much I love California at sunset! We had the best time frolicking around at the beach in Del Mar by San Diego. It all worked out so perfectly for me to come to Del Mar for their engagement photos, even though we’re all going to be traveling to Wisconsin for their wedding next summer.
Kyle and MaKenna are from the same hometown and actually went to high school together. Around junior year they both were in the same friend group and would hangout in group settings and around senior prom, the they started talking but were already going to prom with other people. They continued talking after prom and graduation, which continued into the summer. On July 8, 2014, they had their first real date in Lake Geneva and he asked her to be his girlfriend.
Then they spent the next four and a half years dating long distance while they went to different colleges. Once Kyle got an incredible job opportunity for his career in San Diego, they moved in together to start their lives together on the West Coast.
The weekend of our 8 year anniversary, MaKenna’s mom came out to San Diego for a surprise visit and one night they got dressed up and went to dinner. After dinner, they wanted to go to one of their favorite spots for sunset, the glider port near Torrey pines. As they were walking towards the water, MaKenna’s mom stayed up higher as they kept walking out onto a cliff. MaKenna had a pretty good idea in this moment what was about to happen but she didn’t say anything and she let it happen. After speaking, he got down on one knee and proposed. She obviously said yes and they heard people around cheering for them. MaKenna’s mom got the whole thing on video from a far and they even took some pictures together on the cliff with the beautiful view.
And now they’re planning their wedding in Lake Geneva at the Riviera!
