I first met Christy a few years ago, when her big brother Brian married my high school best friend Lindsay at the San Francisco City Hall, and we immediately clicked. We had the absolute best time celebrating Z and Brian together, and before I left she told me, “when I get married, I’m definitely going to call you!” and I told her “no matter where it is, I’ll be there.” So, when Christy called me one day and asked if I’d photograph her Houston wedding at Sterling Banquet Hall #4, I told her I’d be there no matter what!
It’s the BIGGEST honor to photograph a wedding for a sibling or past wedding party member, mostly because it means I get to hang out again with my couples! I won’t just fly around the country for anyone nowadays, and Christy is definitely super special to me. Getting to hang out with her and Rob was absolutely amazing!
Their indoor wedding at Sterling Banquet Hall in Pasadena was totally outside my normal weddings (I normally photograph naturally lit, outdoor ceremonies) so it was a cool challenge for me. The blue uplighting for the reception was a cool touch, and the mariachi band that started up after their ceremony was so neat!! It’s actually the same mariachi band that comes to all of Rob’s family functions, isn’t that the best!?
So much of their heart and soul was poured into the details of their wedding, too. Rob is a professional ballroom dancer and their choreographed first dance as husband and wife was captivating to watch – they practiced so hard and it was beautiful. Rob’s bosses actually choreographed it for them, which they also performed at Rob’s dance studio’s 5 year anniversary. Christy’s mom’s best friend from high school made their personalized logo, including the wine bottle with fairy lights centerpieces that were Christy’s dad’s idea and Christy’s mom’s creation; Rob’s friend made a slipcover and their florist decorated Rob’s mom’s wheelchair with beautiful flowers so that she felt beautiful and special. Christy’s grandma even sewed golden runners for each table! And Z’s best friend, Sharin, made all of the bouquets.
