Take a break!

For the last few months, it feels like I’ve been go-go-go-go-go … my resolution this year was to work less and I finally followed through on it! I took a wonderful, glorious and MUCH NEEDED four day vacation up to Breckenridge, CO with my family and our best friends here in Colorado. It was exaaaaactly what the doctor ordered! I spent the entire trip with my family – we drank hot cocoa together, we explored Breckenridge together – it was awesome. We rented a huge gorgeous cabin up there, and we had one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen of the entire valley. We didn’t get to see any moose or bears (much to my husband’s sadness), but we did get to have snowball fights and we sat around the fire place (the outdoor fire pit was buried under about 5 feet of snow – no, I’m not kidding!). We played college Jenga (which if you haven’t played before, go get yourself a Jenga set and play with your besties!!), I got to read a book uninterrupted … It was just nice to chill and relax, to stop and smell the pine trees.

The trip went by WAY too fast, but it definitely taught me a little something :: unplugging is an amazing gift. I didn’t have my phone constantly buzzing for new emails and phone calls (although when I finally turned it on this morning, I had six voicemails and well over 100 emails to sort through and respond to!). I didn’t take many pictures (about 200 the entire trip, which if you know me is a ridiculously low amount of photos for a four day trip), I didn’t get on Facebook once, I didn’t Instagram anything … I just hung out. When we got home last night, I didn’t have that “gosh, I need a vacation from my vacation” feeling – I was completely at ease, relaxed and excited for work today – and I can honestly say this is the FIRST trip that I’ve ever felt that way when I got home, and I am positive it is because I unplugged for a few days.

Today I’m back to the grindstone, but I wanted to share a few of my favorite images!
