Top First Dance Songs | Wedding Wednesday

July 15, 2015

At Matt and Amanda’s wedding this past weekend, they got introduced as Mr. & Mrs. to one of my all-time favorite songs – “I Wanna Grow Old With You” by none other than Adam Sandler. And it got me thinking, what are the top of first dance songs for 2015?

top wedding songs 2015

My personal favorite slow jam this year is Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” At Bill and Litsa’s wedding a couple of months ago, Bill’s youngest daughter actually sang this during the ceremony and it had everyone in tears! Side note, I think we need to experience a bride and groom coordinating their first dance to the choreography in the video. Just saying. It would be EPIC.

My absolute favorite “get your booty on the dance floor” jam for 2015, without a doubt, is “Sugar” by Maroon 5. It’s a bit fast for a First Dance, but definitely make sure to get it on the DJ’s “must play” list. You never know, maybe Adam Levine will crash your wedding! My other favorite dancing jam is “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson (featuring Bruno Mars). Every time either of these songs play, the dance floor gets packed!

I did a little poll on our Facebook page a few weeks ago, and it seems like Adam Sandler is a popular choice to surprise brides with (extra kudos to the grooms out there who actually learned how to play the song and perform it!). Other really popular songs in our poll were:

  • “I’ll Be,” by Edwin McCain
  • “Amazed,” by Lonestar
  • “Unforgettable,” by Nat King Cole
  • “It’s Your Love,” by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw
  • “Better Together,” by Jack Johnson”A Thousand Years,” by Christina Perri
  • “Faithfully,” by Journey (I don’t think we’ve ever attended a wedding where at least one Journey song didn’t play!)
  • “All of Me,” by John Legend
  • “She’s Everything,” by Brad Paisley

These are all pretty classic wedding songs at this point; but, according to this article by The Knot:

  • “Coming Home,” by Leon Bridges
  • “A Sky Full of Stars,” by Coldplay
  • “Uptown Funk,” by Mark Ronson (featuring Bruno Mars)
  • “Run, Run, Run,” by Kelly Clarkson (featuring John Legend)
  • “Lay Me Down,” by Sam Smith
  • “Shut Up and Dance,” by Walk the Moon
  • “Sugar,” by Maroon 5
  • “I Want You to Know,” by Zedd and Selena Gomez
  • “Only One,” by Kanye West and McCartney
  • “Love You Like That,” by Canaan Smith

So tell me – what songs are/were on your MUST PLAY list?
