This past weekend I was invited to be part of a big surprise. Allison reached out a few days ago, because she and her husband Dan were flying in to surprise her mom and dad during their annual July 4th family BBQ! And not only that: she was hiring a photographer (hi! me!) to take photos of everyone together. All of the grandparents, grandchildren and great grandchildren were together for the first time in probably 20 years and Allison thought it would be extra special to have a surprise photographer there for a family photo shoot! Talk about a BIG honor! So even though it was a holiday, I had to go because what an incredible opportunity!!
My youngest son, Noah, marched in the July 4th parade with his football team in Waterford, and then right afterward I headed out to Racine for their backyard family reunion. And for those concerned about coronavirus safety, I stayed “socially distant” (I absolutely hate that phrase, by the way) while they gathered in groupings.
I’ll be honest though, it was SO AMAZING to be out and about with people. This was my first shoot since my surgery and the whole coronavirus scare, and if I can be quite frank: my heart needed it more than I realized. Being around people, laughing and joking around, listening to their stories, all of it – it did so much for my mental health. After this past weekend, I’ll tell you what: I am very much looking forward to this whole year being a very distant memory.
Annnnyway … back to Allison and her incredible family! We went through every possible combination we could think of, and had some fun together.
